Since we have a new instance out and of course new bosses I think now is the perfect time to tell everyone about my favourite boss encounters in WoW.
Buru: Is a boss in AQ20, and the fun started even before the boss when people would jump down into the pit and miss the water and die. Anyways, this fight consisted of one person being randomly targeted and chased. This person would have to kite the boss around to these patches of eggs and time it was the DPS would blow them up just as the boss got over them. You had to do this till he lost his shell. This made for some pretty interesting raid nights and that wasn't even until the "OH SHIT" moment when his shell was gone and everyone had to DPS like mad before he owned everyone.
Canon Master Willey: This encounter was just awesome because one person would be chosen to man the cannons and shoot the incoming rifleman adds before they owned your party. Oh the fun I had blasting people made farming the dam bullets worth it.
Baron Geddon: Is a Giant fire elemental in Molten Core. The best part is he randomly casts "Living Bomb" on a random raid member causing him to blow up and at level 60 would basically kill anyone around you. For us when Molten Core became pretty much a joke we would vote on someone to be "the target". This person would then be the target if you got the living bomb. The whole point would be to try and kill this person. Was great fun.
Ragnaros: He was the first major boss in the game and the "TOO SOON" speech is something that will stick with WoW players forever. It is kinda depressing even when you go in there with 2-3 people you still don't see the sons spawn. This fight used to be great fun and I won't forget our great accomplishment in classic WoW, killing him before the Sons spawned.
Nefarian: He was my first "Yes we did it". Sure we had killed Rag and Ony, but neither of them are as close in difficulty as Nefarion. Great times went into learning this boss. Including people forgetting to wear their Onyxia cloaks, which a few times was the tank. The massive amounts of dragons during phase one, the landing of the biggest boss to date, the craziness of the class calls, and who can forget the respawn of the dragons. All of this lead to people screaming on vent when he finally went down.
Lady Vashj: In my opinion this is one of the best encounter designs Blizzard has ever done. It required an amazing amount of team work on every ones part. The passing of cores, the kiting, and the add management made phase 2 insane to get through. And then you were rewarded with phase 3 and the hell that was the poison bats.
Kael' Thas Sunstrider: How can you not love killing a blood elf. Let alone the the Prince himself. I love this fight because its sense of accomplishment. Before 3.0 more people had cleared Mount Hyjal and most of Black Temple then had killed Kael. I know many people complained burning Crusade was too difficult and I guess this encounter was one which had much of the talk for its risk/reward, but when you killed him you knew you did something. Lore wise Kael is also a great character trying to do whats best for his people he goes crazy and even mad, a true addict. Throw in the epic voice overs and you have one the best best fights in WoW history.
Illidan Stormrage: Lore wise Illidan is one of the most interesting characters in Warcraft. Always trying to do whats best for his people and the world, but then always doing it in the wrong way. To me it sucks that we actually killed him, because of how great a character he is. I won't ever forget the first time Akama opened that door and we ran up and heard him say "YOU ARE NOT PREPARED". That time he was right we got our asses handed to us. There will never be a fight again which takes 20+ minutes at level to do, and this fight had everything. Adds, lazer beams from the air, fire on the ground, bacteria multiplying adds, a giant demon, and of course Maiev joined you. Was the fight everyone was looking forward to with a not so epic ending. Who knows maybe we will see The Betrayer again.
Malygos: The first polar fight even if it was just in phase 3. To all you people thinking Kael's gravity thing that doesn't count. This had the lore and the feel you were fighting an Aspect. The voice acting is one of my favourites and who doesn't love fight dragons? This required people to pay attention and focus. Something which wasn't needed in Naxx. This encounter makes me cannot wait for Deathwing, the next Aspect we will fight. He is after all the Biggest, Baddest, Dragon of them all.
Yogg Saron: I enjoy fights that have a lot going on and where people have specific roles to fill, because it makes you feel like you all had to do what you had to do to pull off the kill. Yogg is a great example of one of those fights. It also contained some great historic lore during the portal phases which was a great addition to an already epic feeling boss fight. I always enjoy last bosses in instances the whole "we are awesome" feeling and the "we are finally done" attitude is always a good thing.
The Lich King: I expect him to be here and I hope I am not disappointed.
Tonight is the last chance to get your Screenshots in for tomorrow's post. Don't be late and keep having fun in the stuff I know I am.
