You Fail At Difficult Bosses If...

Fail Day! Yes it is that time of the week once again. You know the time where you feel better about yourself, because others feel less of themselves for failing at something? Ahh yes, what a wonderful day. This week I decided to talk about difficult bosses. Why? Well recently have been playing the FFX-2 Remaster just to mess around. When I got to Trema and realized I couldn't use the Gunner Catnip trick to beat him. This made things much more difficult and gave me some motivation for this.

You Fail At Difficult Bosses If...

  • You always play games on easy difficulty
  • You keep trying a strat which is failing in hopes that it will some how work
  • You believe fire gives haste
  • You go through just as many controllers as you do attempts
  • You don't blame random elements when you keep dying
  • You can't feel your face getting red
  • You believe life is fair
  • You never try any optional bosses
  • You are a button masher, clicker, or keyboard turner
  • You give up and just say no-lifers do this kind of stuff
  • You don't celebrate when you finally win

And Finally

  • You just tell people you beat the boss even though you didn't do it anyway

There you have it this week's edition of Fail. Hope you all enjoyed it and all your rage will be better focused now.

Ask Gauss

Sunday! Yes here we are ending our weekend and feeling awful because the weather is cooling down. Even my pool is closed up now making the realization that as Ned Stark would say "Winter Is Coming". Trying not to get me down too much as there is still plenty of things to do. Like go through my emails and pick questions for the week! So let's get to that!

When are we going to get the Warcraft Movie trailer?

Well that is simple Blizzcon. I have no doubt in my mind that the big reveal this year will be at Blizzcon. I think we will also get a Q&A with the cast as well as tons of other movie related material. I just don't see a better way than that to make a big splash at Blizzard's greatest stage. It actually would surprise me completely if this wasn't the case.

Even playing the Nathan Drake collection you can see how video games have became easier over time.

Anytime you play a trilogy even if the separation of years is large you can seeing the evolution of gaming. In a game like Uncharted it can be more evident towards the difficulty side of things just because I think they made the first game harder than they actually wanted it to be. Now I am talking core mechanics. Obviously you can turn up the difficulty and get the difficulty in the game you should be playing, but that really isn't what I judge a games "difficulty" on. If you compare the second and the third game I think you will see the mechanics of the game are pretty similar with just some minor tweaks to not make the game easier but just make it flow more. This to me is really what you would like in a series you don't want games to be miles away in difficulty because it aggravates some players and pisses off others.

So has Bautista bat flip already the cover winning for MLB The Show net year?

That isn't a bad idea.

There you have it this week's questions. Thank you to everyone who sent something in as this could not be possible without all of your questions. As always if your question was not answered on here I will get to it in the most timely manner possible. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Am I Good?

Friday! Yes it is here and we are all waiting for what the weekend has for us. Many of us will be playing a variety of games this weekend and some of us will be still be playing Bloodborne. A game which tests your limits as a gamer. For this week's Reader Post Gilly sent me in not only a review of Bloodborne, but also his take on if he is in fact good enough to play it. Have a read!

Am I "good" at games? I don't know.

I'm 30 years old: I've been playing video games for 25 of those years, give or take. I spent two weeks this year completing Mega Man 1 through 4. I've sunk hundreds of hours into Spelunky. Whether I'm "good" at games is up for debate; I love challenging games. Despite this, I've never loved the divisive, feverishly adored/hated Souls games. Their challenges felt too great to overcome, their systems too inscrutable, their technical issues too great in number. They felt frustrating instead of challenging.

Bloodborne -- the latest entry in the series and the first without a "Souls" moniker attached -- changes that. This is a game I love to hate. But I mostly just love it.

So, what makes Bloodborne different from previous series entries? It's not nearly as much of a dick as previous games. Yeah. Really.

I'm not trying to be flip -- that's a totally serious statement. While previous games punished players incessantly with compounding measures, Bloodborne encourages you to keep trying. That is a crucial difference in game design, and one that should make it more appealing to a much larger audience.

I used the word "inscrutable" earlier in reference to the systems of previous games. Bloodborne is, by contrast, concise and easily understood.

Also, maybe don't fight the electric beast first thing

In the first part of Bloodborne, you've got two main pathways to go: toward two different bosses. One is hard, but beatable. The other is nigh impossible in the early stages of character development.

Again, maybe I'm not very good at games.

Instead of pushing me down, Bloodborne forces me to play smarter. And it doesn't make me feel like a jerk when I don't. I don't know if I'm good enough for Bloodborne, but I'm trying to be.

I will agree it is much more forgiving then the Souls games, but not in a way which makes it easier. With that in mind enjoy your weekend no matter what you are playing!

It Is All Worth It In The End

So here I was playing Bloodborne and obviously dying quite a bit. Not that I am opposed to dying, because in a game like Bloodborne and those like it you learn from your deaths each and every time. If you don' then you really are going to be overly frustrated and then just end up raging, and maybe even loosing a couple remotes in the process.

Now when all this was happening I was trying to think to myself why I enjoy playing games that are difficult. Now when it comes down to it I always love a challenge. I think most gamers do. They tend to do things, which others never think would be impossible. This is why we have trophies and achievements, to show how messed up and demented we can be. It is not only the challenge though. I enjoy the sense of accomplishment that what I am doing is not going to be done by everyone who picks up a game. I like the fact that I was able to pull that off after the time I put into something. I love the fact that I scream yes, jump for joy, clap, or give myself a pat on the back. I love doing something that warrants a screenshot or an instant text to a friend.

All this isn't for bragging rights though. It really is how you are proud of what you were able to do. Now non gamers will say this is stupid and why would you ever be proud of something you did in a game. The fact of the matter is, why shouldn't you be?

So yes. Hard games can drive you insane. They may cause deaths that will make you not even want to touch a game for days. They may cause a sudden burst of anger, which will leave you explaining why that mark is on the wall. What they also bring though are those memories of the first time doing that, and the struggle you went through to get there.

If a game is easy you will never have any of that. Sure you will remember the game, but you won't have those moments where you overcame something you thought you would never do. So play those hard games, push through the frustration and it all will be worth it in the end.

Endless Rage

Wednesday middle of the week, which as of late has turned into me making a sort of list. So why not come up with another one. When thinking of what to do I was thinking about when I was playing The Last Of Us on survival mode. Yes it was hard, but would I even consider it one of the hardest games I ever played? Not a chance really. I have played a countless amount of games over my lifetime and when trying to think of games I thought were the Hardest I ever played well those games came to my mind almost instantly. So here goes.

5. Castlevania

Castlevania is know for setting the standard for difficult games more so towards that is is at least it’s semi-fair. Well, sort of. Each level is laid out perfectly to make sure every single touch on your controller is perfectly timed. Also I remember countless times where the amount of enemies never seemed to end, and made me scream out WHY. Oh and the very fact that you cannot move while jumping ya that drove me insane. Overall though it will be a game I will never forget even if I cringe at times when seeing pictures.
4. Contra

Modern games have nothing on Contra with their auto saves and unlimited continues. Who needs those? In Contra you got 3 lives thats it. You had no health regen or any of those random things which exist nowadays. If you got hit by a bullet you died its over sucks to be you. Yes oh how this game caused countless screaming matches playing coop

3. Demon Souls

Most if not all modern games are user friendly where the developers are happy you took the time to play their game and believe you should expierence the content. Everyone should beat the game right? Well this is where Demon Souls came in and said a big Fuck you to evcryone. You die repeatly doing basics things and the only help you get is messages left by others who sadly came to the same fate. If you haven't had the pleasure or endless pain I suggest you take it for a spin.

2. Ninja Gaiden Black

This is a game in which I will always remember every single boss fight mostly because I spent countless hours trying to figure them out. Now it is not that the rest of the game was easy no is was brutally hard, but the boss fights and their mechanics where borderline unfair at times, and it drove you absolutely insane. A game that when and if you finally beat it you truly are proud of yourself.

1. Battletoads

Widely consider impossible to beat in single player and friendly fire exists in coop. It is a game that I compare all game difficulties too. Now you may say well you played this a long time ago and there is no way it  compares to Demon Souls  or  Ninja Gaiden and I will tell you that both of those games with all of the time I put into them are basically Hello Kitty Island Adventure in comparison. This is a game where screaming cursing and anything else happened again and again. Ask anyone who has ever had the Battletoads experience what they think and I am sure they will go on and on about how difficult it was.

There you have it there is my Rage list. Do you have one? Agree or Disagree let me know.

I Speak So You Should Listen

So I have come to the conclusion on why people think Cataclysm is hard for a variety of reasons and I just want to use this post as an outlet to try and make people understand the problem. So this may come off to some that I feel I am just better or know better. For the people that actually think that is the case that is probably actually true, but for the people that understand and think about what I am saying they will know and understand what I am saying rings true. So by all means if you don't agree or think I am being a douche tell me. I so enjoy hearing back from anyone and everyone especially the haters.

Tanks

If you are a tank and think Cataclysm is hard it is pretty simple. You were a pally tank that was used to checking their facebook and doing nothing but press one button every couple seconds. You have no idea on stat priorities and have always reallied on your healers to make up for your mistakes. You cannot tank and move and keep aggro, only 1 of the previous are able to be done at any given time.

DPS

So if you are a DPS and you think Cataclysm is hard it comes down to a few things. You hate interrupting or have no clue how to do it. You have CC that you have never used before and have to learn how to use it to be an effective player. You have always expected tanks and healers to make up for your mistakes of standing in the fire dpsing the wrong target etc etc.

Healers

If you are a healer and think Cataclysm is hard then you have no idea how to manage your mana correctly. You are spamming one spell and are not thinking about what you are actually healing. You have tunnel vision problems and cannot heal yourself out of these problems. You ignore boss mechanics and try to heal through them. You have an impression that DPS is easy and healing is 100x more difficult.

It is as simple as that. Tell me how I am wrong and I will be happy to listen.

You Fail At Saying WoW Is Too Easy If...

FAIL DAY!!! Yes it is that time of the week again where we get to enjoy in the fails of everyone else. Oh what a wonderful time of the week. I just want to point out that if you have an idea for Fail Day by all means let me know. Keep in mind I am not going to redo things that I have done in the past so please check if that topic has been done before you request one. Now that I got that over with about this week. I chose a topic, which always seems to be on everyone's mind whenever WoW has been mentioned in gaming circles. So sit back and enjoy the fail.

  • Your definition of hard is Mindcraft

  • Over half of your recorded deaths are in fire or lava
  • You cause wipes in heroics
  • You corpse run during dailies
  • You get lost on the way to the zeppelin or boat
  • You have asked "what's a rotation?"
  • You think void zones are pretty
  • Your most prestigious title is Champion of the Frozen Wastes
  • You still think fire gives haste
  • You cannot MC pull as a priest
  • You think the Super Mario Brothers portion of Deadmines should be removed because it does nothing but give you a rez timer
