We Deserve Real Endings

So here I am looking to rant about something although I already know what I am trying not to rant about. Obviously cliffhangers have been on my mind the last few days. There are good and bad ways to do it. I think the best cliffhangers are the ones where they don't actually have to be a cliffhanger. For example, I think the way The Last of Us ends is great.

Sure it leaves something open where it could continue, but if it ended there it would still be wrapped up. You can decide for yourself how it ended. I think any time you leave yourself with a cliffhanger this is the way it should be done. People can interpret it the way they want, think what they want, and if you want to continue with your story then people can see if they were right.

The bad way? Forcing people to continue to see the ending they put the time in, not having a real ending at all, making people think they got the ending they deserve, or not sure how you wanted it to end so give an ending where you can have more time to decide on what you actually will do. All of these ways are a slap in the face to fans.

These are the people you rely on to make your games a success and you slap them in the face with your endings based solely on your future bottom line. These are the things which need to be avoided, and we as consumers should never be quiet about.

So yes this whole ranting week started because of the stupid Walking Dead ending, but it also has made me realize how angry I get when this type of thing happens in the games I love. We deserve real endings and not ones that drive sales.

Now unless you know exactly what I am referring to that title is probably a little weird. If you do understand it I know you are saying it in just the right voice. Last week I showed you what I believe to be the worst endings ever in video games. I know a lot of you had differing opinions and that's great, but your opinion isn't mine. When I do these lists there are my musts which pop into my head and I go from there. This week's list though was actually very difficult I actually struggled to pick my top 5, but I am pretty happy with my choices and I know there will be plenty of people to argue against me, but here goes my Best Endings ever. Also let's not be stupid there are obvious spoilers in this post.

5. Red Dead Redemption



When Red Dead Redemption's ending is number 5 on the list you know there has to be some pretty amazing endings out there. This is a mixture of love, honor, loyalty, and everything else there possibly could be. It truly is a work of art and played out beautifully. Even if you never played the game this is an ending where you truly feel for the characters.

4. Uncharted 3



Based upon the title of the blog today you might have thought I would have gone with Uncharted 2. It does have quite an amazing ending, but I really couldn't put in on the list and feel right. Uncharted 3's ending though is special. The game started showing where Nathan came from and ended with him not only being some else but being what was always envisioned.

3. Kingdom Hearts



I am sure Kingdom Hearts ending is #1 in many people's books and you really would be hard pressed to argue against it. The game was scripted beautifully and the ending was no different. A tear jerker for sure and one you can watch again and again and it will never get old.

2. Assassin's Creed Revelations



Again I am sure this is many people's #1 and it was almost mine as well. Realizing what the life of an assassin truly is. This is not only the end of Ezio's life as an assassin but it also gives us the realization of what is to come for the world. It  is an ending which gives up saddness, hope, and the realization that there is much more to do.

1. Final Fantasy X



What makes a good ending? A story of love? A story of sacrifice? Or a realization of what it means to be alive? The answer would be all of those and more. Final Fantasy X will break your heart and make you scream at your screen WHY. It will also make you appreciate what you have and what time you have left. It took me time to come to this, but really there is none better deserving of the words The End.

There you have it my top 5 endings in video games. I know there are lots missing many of them great, but I am happy with my choices as always though let me know yours one way or another.

You Fail At Understanding The Cataclysm Ending Cinematic If...

Fail Day it is, and I promise today it won't be a rant. Have some real fails to take care of today that cannot go unnoticed. I want to say though there will be SPOILERS in this post if you have not seen the ending cinematic. So do not read it if you don't want to this to somewhat spoil it. Time to get to it.

You Fail At Understanding The Cataclysm Ending Cinematic If...

• You had no idea who the Dragon Aspects are
• You some how think when Thrall says "the Cataclysm is over" you lose the ability to do the Dragon Soul raid again.
• You think by power being expended means they are going to drop dead
• You believe they have no power at all
• You think they will now be stuck in human form
• You believe this some how makes it impossible for Nozdormu to become Murozond
• You think Alexstrasza impregnated Aggra for some crazy Christan reference
• You believe thrall is smiling because he is thinking "ya I tapped that"
• Your first feeling after seeing it is Kalecgos got screwed
• You believe they went with this idea because there was no one to be the Aspect of Earth
• You think this means anything that we kill now will not be as epic because we have no Dragon Aspects
• You some how believe this means that Old Gods cannot be killed because to kill their greatest minion needed 4 aspects that are now powerless
• You are making jokes that the age of mortals should be renamed age of pandas
• You think Nozdormu is bleeding to death when the sands are pouring out of him

and finally

• You think this was all caused because the Aspects took an arrow to the knee

Really only think there is one possible quote this week

"I can feel the elements awakening...rejoicing.. the Cataclysm is over"
