Year Of The Gamer

So I have been receiving a lot of feedback with the normal year end and year beginning sort of crap that you always get. Not to say what you all have been writing is crap, but that is using crap as just a lot. Now I am going off on something that is making less and less sense. Basically a lot of the mail I have been getting lately has to do with will 2016 be a good year for us gamers. The short answer to this, well yes.

Now why am I saying that? Well it is pretty simple really. Games which are solely for computer don't really have a set cycle. They are good and they are bad depending on the developers. This is the way it always will be because they deal with the technology at hand. For console games it always takes time for games to first off be released for the next generation console and then for the developers to actually get used to developing for the consoles. This is why I have always favoured a long console cycle.

Just think about it 2014 saw hardly any games released for the current generation. The media was plagued with why were they released when no games worth buying were even coming out. We even saw previous generation games coming out when the new generation had arrived. 2015 saw improvements in game selection but the "great" releases were still few and far between.

Now in 2016 I had trouble making my list for my top 5 because there are so many great games on the horizon and I am beyond excited to get my hands on. I know a lot of you are just as excited, but are cautious with the series of delays that have been happening in recent years. I believe we are finally to the point where we can be excited. We will be getting at least 1 title if not more every month, which will keep us busy and our wallets struggling.

2016 to me is going to be looked back on as one of the best years in the gaming industry for years to come. I hope you are all just as excited about it as I am.

Long Live Play

Wednesday. Middle of the week already eh? I don't know if it is getting closer to Christmas or I have just been watching more TV lately, but I have noticed a bunch of video game commercials. Now this got me thinking that really what commercials for video games out there are the best? Well that is what today is all about!

5. Laundry Bear - BattleTanx

What do tanks and stuff bears have in common? Well nothing. That doesn't stop this commercial from making it the tanks purpose in life to destroy all teddy bears.

4. Perfect Day - PS4

The PS4 launch commerial was nothing short of spectacular. It was all about enjoying the system with your friends in endless competition. Just the thing every gamer wants to do!

3. Robin Williams Zelda - Ocarina of Time 3D

The late actor lends himself to this release and the series who his daughter is in fact named after. His descriptions make you wonder which Zelda is he really talking about.

2. What's Your Game - World of Warcraft

In these series of the commercials with a variety of celebrities talking about their World of Warcraft escapades borders on amazing in every possible way. You were always wondering who are they going to get next!

1. Michael - Playstation

Just had to show you this one on why to me it really is what gaming is. To me by far the best gaming commercial there has ever been!

There you have it. What are your favourite gaming commercials? I am sure there is a few that are on your list you will complain I didn't include.

Ask Gauss

Happy Sunday everyone! Hope your week has been good. Mine hasn't been that bad. Today would mark my 1 month being back in WoW and I must even with all the changes it has been fun. Sure a lot has changed but I am really enjoying my time playing. Something I wasn't really doing before I stopped playing. Once again thanks to everyone for there support and all of you who have came by and said hello. Tried to respond to all of you if I didn't keep trying and call me an asshole for not getting back to you sooner.

Now it is Sunday after all so why don't we get these questions answered.

So you have been back to WoW for a bit do you plan at going hard into raiding?

I have done some LFR and even a little flex and while LFR in my opinion isn't really raiding it does have a little spark for me. I can say for sure though I don't plan on going crazy into raiding any time during Mists. Not saying I won't do some raids but I have no plan to go all crazy. Now will I raid I raid in the future? That is still up in the air. Warlords interests me and I have had a lot of old time raiders tell me if I start up they will gladly follow me. Honestly I don't know if I should take this as a complement for how I ran raids or not. Many people used to say I was tough on people when was raiding. I demanded a lot from people, but never more then I thought they could give. I think at the time it may have made some people angry but now after the fact and with them being in some other environments they see what I was trying to do. So hearing back from them now I can see they appreciated what I brought to them and their raiding career.

Do you think the PS4 came out to early? There is like hardly any games.

Truly I would say yes, but it is like this with every  new generation. There is a select few games which come out and then there is also overlap from the previous generation games still coming out. Now would it make more sense to have the system come out in may when the last generation games out. Maybe but then there would be too little games coming out before the new system was out. So while it is not the perfect system it works and if you are worried about no games the best thing to do is wait till the old generation games stop coming out before you buy the new system.

What mount you currently using?

For now at least.

There you have it this week's questions answered. Thank you to everyone who sent something in this wouldn't be possible without you doing so.

XBOX ONE VS. PS4

Safiree Saturdays

Happy Saturday everyone. Hopefully your PS4's are making you happier than the few people I know who haven't so far. There is plenty of opinions flying around with the PS4 vs. XBOX ONE. I'm personally not much for console gaming. I used to have an Xbox 360, and sometimes it was great. My Wii system is nice when you have family over, and they tell you how much you suck at life and how you will never beat them at the dumbest rendition of bowling. Yes I always lose, but you can't argue the fun that comes along with it. I stick to buying games for PC. I don't play with a desktop computer. I play on my laptop that I had custom build by Sager.

-Sager Notebook's NP9170 (Clevo P170EM)
 -Intel I7-3630QM @ 2.40Ghz w/ Optimus Technology
-4gb NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX
-16gb of 1600Mhz RAM
-Western Digital 750gb 7200rpm Hard Drive
-Cruical M4 130gb Solid State Drive
-Killer Wireless-N Bigfoot 1103 5Ghz wireless card
-Realtek High Definition Soundcard
-Fullsize Multicolor Backlight Keyboard w/ Number Pad
-17.3' Full HD LED 60Hz Display
 -Windows 8 64-bit

A lot of people don't agree with my playing on a laptop. I love it. Point is, to each their own. Are you a PS4 or an XBOX ONE kind of gamer? Or both o_0  Controllers? XBOX ONE has been won over by a lot of gamers. PS4 has the touch pad, but the xbox controller has the rumble triggers that apparently is where it's at. The DualShock 4 is a little bigger in the next-generation thanks to its unique front-and-center touchpad. Sony stuck with the dual analog sticks down in front, but at least have a central divot recess for easier gripping.

Maybe the difference in consoles comes down to nostalgia. The console you played most when you were younger. For me that would be the Playstation. I think people are so critical of their opinions with them because of the great memories they had with the previous consoles. Also with the games that are available exclusively for either console. In conclusion, I think it should  all come down to preference and the game you are playing. The console exclusive games are what matters. In my opinion that is. Can't take the fandom out of the gamer.

"Xbox One will NOT require 24 Internet Check and will support USED GAMES 100% and it will work like it does today on Xbox 360. Buy, lend, trade, sell, whatever you want."
- Machinima Kovic & Bruce

"The CPU, and GPU have been concluded to be the same. The PS4 may be overclocked a bit higher than the xbox. The ram on the ps4 is higher quality." - Machinima Kovic & Bruce

One of the most impressive things about the PS4 specs has been its use of 8GB GDDR5 RAM. Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One to have 8GB RAM as well, but it's DDR3 memory variety. That may mean more to game developers in the long run as opposed to gamers themselves right now, but it's still an interesting choice for the Xbox One. So what are your opinions on all of this? Also... is Battlefield 4 better than COD ghosts? :) Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Send in pictures of how you have your gaming station set up. Whether you are PC, or Console. Both even. I'll look through them with Gauss and will post the one we like the best to next Saturdays post.

You Fail At PS4 If...

Fail Day! That time of the week again. Isn't it weird that some may interpret that sentence in a completely different way while others are cheering in the background. Did most of you pickup your PS4 this past weekend? Did you enjoy the gaming madness which went on because of it? Regardless time to discuss fail.

You Fail At PS4 If...
  • You are honestly unaware what the P and the S stand for
  • You are patiently waiting for an Xbox One
  • You look around the room when you hear "the voice"
  • You downloaded and tried to play your PS1 classics
  • You listened to the reviews of Knack
  • You purchased CoD Ghosts for your PS4
  • You don't sit back and watch the sand in ACIV
  • Your lack of PS3 trophy conversion doesn't anger you
  • You were unaware it was not backwards compatible
  • You cannot find the headphone port on the system
  • You didn't thank Nintendo for PS4's existence
  • You don't think the new UI is awesome
  • You would not buy a PS4 just to play the newly announced Uncharted
  • You do not turn the box into a shrine
and finally
  • You don't have a PS4
There you have it this week's edition of Fail. Hope you all enjoyed it and happy PS4ing

Ask Gauss

Sunday! The last day of the PS4 weekend. Did you pick one up yourself? Did you try to and one wasn't available? Or could you completely careless about the whole situation? Great thing about Gauss Nation is I think there will be some from everyone of those categories. With today being today though it does kind of mean it is time to answer some questions. Some how some way there are still people who are unaware of how to send in their questions. I even had someone send me an email asking how to send in a question... With that in mind top right of the page has all the options available or just send an email to me at gaussafication@gmail.com

Is it worth getting a PS4?

A simple answer would be yes. Now all I have done is play the same game I have been playing Assassin's Creed IV, which I also have for the ps3. Great promotion for only $10 got the upgrade. Anyways, just the difference between the 2 is something special. It almost is like a completely different game. The crispness and clarity is amazing. Even the sound output is noticeable, which I wasn't at all expecting. Also Uncharted was announced and if anything is worth getting a system for it would be that. If you haven't seen the teaser here it is

Is Hearthstone pay to win?

Not at all. Would it be quicker to purchase decks? Probably. People in beta are most likely going to be way ahead in cards anyway when it goes live. Part of the reason I think they are going to have a longer than expect open beta. As long as you think when you are putting your decks together and realize class cards are your really important cards then you will be fine. Also realize there is a learning curve so don't play like 2 games and complain about it being pay to win. Take your time learn the game and then you will see it isn't what you first thought.
Will you be getting an Xbox One?

I am like 95% sure this was troll but really? Honestly?

There you have it questions all answered for the week. Enjoy what remains of your weekend!

Ask Gauss

Sunday! End of the weekend is upon us! I know I know it sucks but hey just think next weekend is a long weekend. Well if you are Canadian and have Thanksgiving at least, which I am and do so all is good in my books. Anyways it's Sunday so let's just get right into the Ask Gauss part of your day.

So Beyond Two Souls on Tuesday, are you ready?

This is a game I am truly excited for. This game hasn't got as much press as some other games, but it has the potential to be amazing. Everything I have seen and heard from it gives me no cause for complaints or concerns. I loved Heavy Rain and it looks that this game is going to be full of those same type of morality choices that made Heavy Rain what it was. Now as much as I say it is going to be a great game to play and I assume I am going to enjoy it to no end. I truly doubt it is going to be on the same level as The Last of Us but we shall only see.

Do you feel games should be scaled down because of the average persons computer?

This is an interesting question. In most cases I would no a game should never be worse just because they want more people to play it. Blizzard's approach to this problem I feel is one all gaming companies should employ. Sure it requires a different type of engine and more work for programmers but a game is not hindered based upon graphics abilities of low end machines. So it is possible. The drawback of the non Blizzard approach is this. Taken from the most recent SimCity blog.

After months of testing, I confirm that we will not be providing bigger city sizes. The system performance challenges we encountered would mean that the vast majority of our players wouldn’t be able to load, much less play with bigger cities. We’ve tried a number of different approaches to bring performance into an acceptable range, but we just couldn’t achieve it within the confines of the engine. We’ve chosen to cease work on bigger city sizes and put that effort into continuing to evolve the core game and explore an offline mode. Some of the experiments we conducted to improve performance on bigger cities will be rolled into future updates to improve overall game performance.

That to me may be the worst news in months maybe even years. A game that is so close to being great that they decide not to make it better because of the work needed to be put in. The fact is they would make less money for what they could get from it. Now SimCity looks amazing on my computer and I have seen what it looks like on low end machines. To scrap what everyone has been calling to because of the start because of graphical issues on low end machines though makes me sad and quite frankly pissed off.

If you are interested in the whole blow can see it here State of SimCity

Are PS4s still available for Pre-Order anywhere?

I truly doubt it.

There you go questions answered for the week. Hopefully something good came of answering them. Enjoy what is left of your weekend!

PS4 Reveal

So before anyone asks about it 0. No I am not going to be doing an Xbox reveal. I could say all sorts of bad things about the new Xbox and frankly you probably might even enjoy me going off on a random tangent about how awful so many of the "amazing" features it has are. When it comes down to it I am not 12  year old Call of Duty brat that is talking crap about your mother because I feel like the most amazing person in the world because I have a headset. Yes, headsets are that awesome it's the truth look it up. Also I could careless about the people writing comments "blah blah playstation has call of duty too Noob, U mad bro??????" So now that I got that crap out of the way.

So PS4. You seen what it looks like? No well why not? Here it is.

Looks like a PS2 that went on diet. That is not a bad thing either, I loved the look of the PS2. Even after I paid for it and it had no games for months. The thing had a DVD player! The hardware in the PS4 though is pretty impressive along with some of new features they are adding. I of course will be overpaying for this the day it comes out. But will I? $450 and $399 for holidays when this thing comes out. That was something I wasn't expecting at all. I paid $1200 for my day 1 PS3 seems technology comes cheaper these days. I am actually looking quite forward to see what kind of games the new generation will produce on this.

If you are interested in more of the specifics can get that by clicking  ON ME. If you are on the fence on getting a console or you for some reason have an Xbox. Check it out I think you will be pleasantly surprised. If you  are one of those clueless people who electronics just know "PS4 Good" and you get the gist of it. Tell me what all of you think of the PS4 or maybe you looking forward to a specific game. Just don't make it a Playstation vs Xbox war not really interested in that crap mostly because we all know Xbox is crap.
