The Hearthstone Gods

Friday. Yes it is here and it is time to pick a Reader Post for the week. Now I know like anyone else that the RNG gods can be very cruel. Many times I get submissions that complain that the world is against them and that such and such is just unfair. That was when I cam across Shivan's Post for the week which made me sit back smile and feel the pain. So what better reason then to share it with you.

This is not a whine session, but more of an observation.

First off, I have no illusions of making it to the world championships. I also, for the most part, enjoy playing weenie decks, with a catch, and accept that doing so requires early board dominance. However...

After about a five game win streak , you ever have where you just start getting your butt handed to you, ridiculously hard?

It's not because you moved up a rank or two...You're still facing the same one, or two successful decks each class has. Patron Warriors, Secret Paladins, Mech Mages, Totem Shamans etc...and you know what you need to counter the deck. It's because out of the blue, you just start getting the most God awful draws that could be created out of your decks. Even mulligans are a complete disaster. "Oh jeez, I just drew three out of the four end-game cards I have. Better put Dr. Boom back in and redraw...wtf...Dr. Boom, again???"

That, or your opponent gets a draw so specifically designed to destroy you, and keeps pulling just the right card to stop any kind of recovery.
"Meh heh heh heh, I'm a Warlock, and I'm going to whip out my fourth turn 8/8 giant...Shadow Word:Death...Ok, well here's another....SW:D...Um, ok, well here's two more 8/8s...and a Light Bomb. And I've lost to a 1/3 cleric..."
Or, the Piloted Shredder that just so happens to poop out a Steamwheedle Sniper...for a hunter.

And I've had this happen to me on the flip side, where I have just dominated decks that I know aren't working no where near the way they should. Where I'm winning by fifth turn with 26-30 life left. While it does make me feel confident in my deck, the reality is that I received the perfect starting hand to counter my opponent, and the luck just kept pulling with each draw. Where my opponent started off with expensive cards, and broken combos.

As mentioned, this observation isn't meant to complain, and ask why my decks are losing. I'm happy with them. They're fun and have a decent success rate, and I know where the gamble is in playing with them.

I'm wandering if anyone else has noticed that on some days, the Hearthstone gods have just deemed you unworthy?

There you have it? What do you think?

Have a great weekend!

A Mask For All Occasions

So with the start of Hallow's End all anyone can talk about is this

The masks that used to have to be gotten only from trick or treating every hour can now be purchased for tricky treats. Now this changes completely how outrageously difficult and random the Mask for all Occasions achievement was. Now I am all for keeping achievements hard and difficult in fact I was one of the supporters for Blizzard changing the "The Exalted" achievement every expansion so that it actually meant something. So logically many of you would think I would be against Blizzard changing this achievement, but you would be wrong.

If there is nothing I hate more it is achievements or anything else in WoW related to RNG. This is why TBC DPS was up and down so much, because of procs and RNG. They fixed that and DPS for all classes is a lot less RNG based compared to how it used to be. Achievements that require you to have luck and click a button every hour for 2+ weeks are not hard they are stupid. I have no problem with achievements that cannot be done in 1 year. I actually think those achievements are great actually. You want achievements that are difficult, take time and effort, or both. Never in there do you want an achievement that is also random or luck based.

So to all the people that have this achievement I can say grats to you, but I also would think you would thank the RNG gods for helping you get it. Changing the achievement to be bought with treats makes people participate in the holiday and its events. Rather than making sure you are online every hour. This is truly what every holiday achievement should be like.

So in case you haven't noticed I still hate RNG with a passion and will continue to do so to I slay their gods.

Oh RNG How I Hate You

So today I was already to post a topic on how I finally completed my Shadowmorne. How even though I had been having weeks upon weeks of horrible shard drop rates that I had worked through it and would be wielding the Legendary. Well I was denied by the RNG. For those of you who have no clue what RNG is, "Random Number Generator". I am sitting at 49/50 shards although Lich King is left to kill this evening. Now his drop rate for the shard is about 25% on normal, but the plan of getting it beforehand and getting the items off of him this evening is now gone. This is beside the point though waiting to next week is fine, but let me explain the hate I have for the RNG.

The Turtle Mount: You don't want to know how much I have fished for this stupid thing. I have been trying daily since this mount was announced. Tried in every type of pool, every zone and so on and so forth. Now anytime you can mount in a raid instance I am taunted with an army of turtle mounts.

The White Polar Bear: The daily in storm peaks I did everyday since it was possible. This was of course 3 days after Wrath was released and I was high enough level to do it. After 16 months the bear was finally in the bag and I could stop doing the stupid daily and throwing the snowballs in the bag at the quest giver.

Plate DPS Neck off BQL: Now I could even say necks in general. I have no clue how many times we have killed Blood Queen but I do know a neck has never dropped. Not even once. Sure all our casters love that the staff drops every week.

Traps in Plague Quarter: So this has happened 2 or 3 times. The whole raid goes to the neck Abomination runs through and I am left doing loot. When I start making my way to the next boss some how I hit a trap that no one else has and the crackheads come and own my face.

So that is why I hate the RNG, and that of course is just what I have dealt with in rather I could go on forever with everything from the past.
