Ask Gauss

Sunday! Yes here we are with yet another weekend coming to an end. Well at least we have Game of Thrones to keep us from forgetting tomorrow is Monday. Also have me to pass some of the time while checking out the questions and the answers I have for the week. So here I go getting to it.

Why are people cheating at Overwatch?

Well I assume you are referring to the bans by Blizzard. You see some people just have to get the highest score no matter what. They feel this makes them a better human being. Also some people tend to buff up accounts and then sell them. Now this only exists because people don't want to work for anything and are entitled. So either way this really is a problem with a small amount of people who just are that special kind of stupid.

Is Twitch being ruined, by these banned streamers?

I don't think it is being ruined, but I don't think these streamers make the gaming community look very good at all. They just at to gamer stereotypes and to me this is the worst thing possible. Gamers are everyday people who do everyday things. They are not people who live in their mom's basement who beyond overweight and useless to the world. I am sure some of those people exist, but by supporting this useless streamers all this will do is make the public's perception of gamers be one which will not allow gaming to break through to sponsors, which just makes Esports' climb not a good one. So think of it this way every time you support a useless streamer a pro gamer retires because he is unable to support himself, and therefore makes the Esports scene less interesting.

Plan on seeing the Warcraft Movie this week?

Obviously.

There they are the questions for the week. Hope you all got something out of it in one way or another. As always thank you to everyone who sent in a question this would not be possible without your input. Now you have my permission to enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Twitch Bans

So over the last week or so we have been blessed with the news of a series of Twitch bans which have gone down for a variety of different reasons. Now the first thing that comes to my mind is that many of these bans are for people who are attention seekers. Then it gets me thinking of the people who are watching these streams and why.

When I watch a twitch stream it is either because the game they are playing is something that I may be interested in and want to get a feel. Could also be because I find the person streaming entertaining and worth my time, and lastly because there is some sort of tournament that I have turned in to watch. So then why are these people watching these streams just for an "accident" or an "incident" are these things entertaining to people? Why? Like it really makes me worry about civilization as a whole.

There are tons of streamers out there who are there for the better of gaming communities, people who want to have a good time with friends, or professionals who are trying to make ends meet the best way they can because they need to put the time in. These are the types of people twitch is for and all about. Not the attention seekers and the idiots. The people that are giving the streaming world a bad name because of what has happened in the last few weeks.

So when you decide to watch a stream do so for the right reasons. And not just because I think they are the right reasons, but because they actually are.

You Twitch

So you may or may not have heard. YouTube is looking to acquire Twitch. So why is this such a big deal? Well it is a monster deal to say the least. Twitch if you are unaware allows gamers to stream themselves playing their favourite games. They are also able to interact with all of those watching them play no matter how many are or aren't. This has produced massive communities and really is what has allowed professional gamers to really be a "thing".

So why is this a good thing?

Well it has the opportunity to bring the non gaming community to the gaming community. It has the potential to push Esports to the mainstream by showing how entertaining these events actually are. While also showing off the streamers which may not be the best players but are true entertainers in every sense of the word. All of these are great things and I cannot see any downside to any of it.

So why could it be a bad thing?

YouTube favours large and established channels. It is extremely hard now to be an original content create and get yourself out there. If you are an established channel you are doing great and always continue to do so. There is also privacy issues where to avoid anything companies and have your videos taken down and all your work is for nothing. Right now none of these concerns are even on the radar with Twitch which is why it has been one of the best things to happen to gaming.

I understand why Google wants Twitch. It has the opportunity to be a massive advertising machine and generate massive amounts of money. It just needs to bring in the audiences without ruining what Twitch is and I am really not sure they can accomplish this.
