Ask Gauss

So it is the end of the weekend, which means it is time for this week's edition of Ask Gauss. It is a rather late post I was a little occupied today so you all will have to live with it. So after mulling through all questions in what is know as my inbox I chose these ones.

When you recruit people off server do you give them full time spots automatically?

I treat server transfers like anyone else. I give them the chance to preform and prove themselves. If they show me they can be at the level I expect them to be then they will get that spot. I give nothing out for free, everything must be earned. I tell them this straight when I recruit them. They have to earn the spot they want. It is not my concern that they had to pay to transfer and/or faction change. I find this gets me players that are not only serious, but also ones that are confident in their own abilities. These are the players I want. Someone who isn't up to the challenge won't come over and make that monetary investment. This is also why it is almost better to recruit off server this way, because you will get people who don't want to waste what they put in to come over. So win win. I think also the recruits respect that I am honest with them and give it to them straight. I don't give them baseless promises that I have no intent on keeping.

Do you play with anyone you know out in the real world?

I do. This is also a sketchy thing to do if you are serious about your gameplay. For there could be the option that you both are good players and fit well with one another. There is also the option that one of you is bad and has to put up with the other one. This situation can cause stress, because you always have to cover for the other one and find reasons why you put up with the other one. The last option is people can use the friendship in a way that can actually harm the friendship. You push one another to the limits because you know in the end you won't do anything. This can lead to what people think is favouritism. This is a very slippery slope and you should be very careful not to tread this path. Remember in the end it is a game just let your friendship get worse or make your gameplay any less fun. I really think that is the most important thing to remember.

What is the thing you say most often in raids?

Sadly probably "Just wipe it!".

Trolling Da Forums

So my guild is currently looking at fixing the summer jinx and inviting a couple people in order to maximize potential. With that in mind and the lack of unguilded and geared players on Llane I tend to explore off server. This took me to the Horde Recruitment forums where I saw such classics as

• 4900gs Resto/Bear looking for guild 10/12 HM ICC
• looking for highly skill raiders
• MM Hunter LFG have done all fights on my Shaman
• LFM to join the party
• LF Serious RAF Partner
• Weekend Raiding guild looking for Weekday Raiders

Those were just some of the beauties I saw. Also what is with people posting all the symbols and such. It doesn't make me want to click on your thread it makes me wish I could slap you upside the head. Another thing that bothers me is people who post in a recruitment thread on an alt. Does that even make sense? You think I want to waste my time replying to your thread if you could be crap? Of course not, it is a waste of my time. More things that bug me are people who are looking for a guild way beyond there gear level and experience, honestly you just are making yourself look like an idiot who has no clue. There is also the people that log out in PvP gear or naked so you can't even look at their crap on armory. All of these things even if they bug me at least they lower the number of people I actually have to reply to or check out.

So to all the others trying to fix holes with people wanting to explore the outside with the nice weather at least the Recruitment forums will give you a good laugh, and I feel your pain!

You Fail At Recruiting If...

Tuesday it is! We also have a minor patch to deal with, which is supposed to reduce lag or so they say. Maybe an increase to the ICC buff, turn in my hundreds of marks of honor, and of course get myself a pretty new carpet. So when thinking what my fail post would be this week I thought about the time of year. Generally during this time of year attendance has always become a problem. Maybe it is the fact people want to go outside and do stuff more, people work more, or some other random reason. Regardless it happens so I decided to be of some help.

You Fail At Recruiting If...

• Your star new recruit was someone who was asking in trade for a raiding guild
• You invite someone with the name "Awesomemt" only to find out he is a mage
• You end up with 50% of your raid being DKs, Rogues, and Warriors
• You believed the guy when he said 71 points in frost was a solid spec
• You recruited someone whose experience was "I have watched my friend do it"
• You are looking on ebay
• You recruit anyone who has any of the following in their toons name"irule", "iown", or "ipwn"
• Your greatest raider was found in Barrens general chat
• Your only question for applicants is "Are you ready for an invite?"
• You are looking for a Disc priest as your new raid healer
• You believe your recruit when he says there are no useful glyphs for "this class" with "this spec"
• You don't know enough about your own guild to answer questions from recruits
• You ask them to place an application on your website without realizing it has been taken over by Turkish hackers
• You accept applicants because they are female and you feel this will be good for morale

And finally

• You recruited a pally named "Flashheal" who is ret spec
