You Were Good! See You Next Time!

So there has been a lot of talk of reviews and games getting talked about too much about their scores they have received. There is also another end to the spectrum when games may receive bad reviews and turn out to be looked at as pretty great games in the long run of things. So for my list this week I decided to talk about when reviews turned out to be quite wrong.

5. Assassin's Creed III

It is hard to follow Ezio that is for sure. Especially a character people liked so much he got his own trilogy. Also when the main character is at the opposite ends of the personality spectrum it tends to not go off ass well. The thing about it is and what people have realized is that ignoring the modern day story the reception of the third game would have been better from the get go if 4 came before 3, because the personality of the heroes was much closer. That being said people realize now that they were much harder on Conor than they should have been.

4. Diablo III

So when a game is expected for years and years it really will find it hard to live up to anything near the standard of what people expect. This game was trashed from the get go because it wasn't Diablo II and for the whole error 37 thing. Looking now 4 years later you can see much of the criticism to the game was unwarranted nostalgia issues.

3. League of Legends

Most of the reason I fill this game got a lot of flack on release because it was the first major game to promote itself as free to play. Many too offense to that type of mentality, but really the game responsible for the rise of the MMO esports scene is now laughing at all those reviews.

2.  Legend of the Dragoon

A game that got an initial score in the 60s range because of what many talk about as "the dotted line" yes it was a linear rpg, but that seemed to be something the reviews couldn't get over and nowadays many linear games are praised for being exactly what LoD was. Now this game is looked at as a darling among rpg fans and one of the best games the Playstation ever saw.

1. Mario Kart 64

It really is hard to believe people could be so wrong and the line that is most often quoted with how poor reviews can be is this "Even with all its bells and whistles. Mario Kart 64 is very likely to disappoint you after about a week". 20 years later and this game still is one of the best in many people eyes.

There they are. What do you think? Do you think these games got the initial reviews and reception they deserved? As always let me know in one way or another.

Is His Majesty Albert Alright?

Armor? Check. Sword? Check? Noble Birth? Does that really even matter? Well if you haven't guessed I am referring to something you cannot escape when it comes to fantasy games at all. That is the knight. Everyone has their favourites and with today being a day for a list well here is the perfect opportunity for you to know mine!

5. Cecil Harvey - Final Fantasy IV

The main character in an often forgotten Final Fantasy game. He is the definition of everything a knight should be even if he rebelled against what were supposed to be his knightly duties. Honorable, driven, and there to save the day when needed!

4. Esbern - Skyrim

He is one of the last surviving member of the blades. He is there as an archivist and has made it his goal to predict the return of the dragons. He then is their when the prophecy unfolds and takes you under his wing to prepare you for the war ahead.

3. Sir Arthur - Ghosts N Goblins

What does one do when the princess is captured? Well what any good knight would do. Grab your lance and be off to save her. On the way be sure to kill anything you see to make sure the blue haired princess is yours when it is all over.

2.Siegfried - Soul Calibur Series

So not only does he have noble goals in mind for his quest to avenge his father's death he has a big ass sword! His quest is one which rips him apart and spawns Nightmare a being of pure hatred and evil based upon the emotions he has gone through. In the end though he is able to defeat Nightmare and maintain his purity and honor.

1. Lavitz - Legend of the Dragoon

Was there really any doubt? This is someone who gave his life for those he was sworn to protect. He was always honorable from day one and stood up for everything he believed in. Still get the feels when i watch his death scene.

There it is my favourite and what I believe to also be the greatest knights in video games. Think otherwise? Well be sure to let me know even if I won't agree

It Can't Be For Nothing

So here we are on Wednesday waiting to see what list I will be doing today. If you read the last Ask Gauss you would have known that it is going to be all about Sequels which should happen today. I figured instead of just giving my go ahead on one might as well make it a list so here it goes.

5. Shenmue

Fans of the Shenmue series have been waiting for the 3rd installment of the game for pretty much ever. The games themselves were built to be sellers of the Dreamcast and were incredibly expense to produce. With all of that said I would love to see the 3rd game, but this is really in the never going to happen territory

4. Heavenly Sword

This is one that actually bothers me. They have the stories for 2 sequels. Yes you heard me right. They have stated this publicly many times. I have a feeling it has to do with it being an exclusive only title, but then again look now at the success of single platform games.

3. Assassin's Creed IV

So we are following Edward and we see Haythem at the end in the theater and we are still left wondering why did he forsaken everything and become a templar? Yes why did he!

2. Legend of the Dragoon

Here is a game where we thought we were going to get a sequel. Production was said to be started and then we never heard anything again. This game has a huge following and I would definitely be there day 1 if it was happening.

1. The Last of Us

This is arguably one of the great games of all time. The ending although it worked for the situation does leave questions you would like answers too. I do believe we will see a sequel will just have to wait for it.

There it is my list for the week. Hope we are all on the same page. Is there another game you think deserves a sequel? Let me know one way or another.

I Dreamt I Was A Moron

Middle of the week already? That is the first thing I thought about when I started to throw ideas around for this week's list post. Then it got me thinking how some things in a game are so obvious and thrown out there you wonder how so many people never pick up on them. It is like they cannot see what is right in front of them. You then get into arguments with them how this and that is not true or that never happened, or there was never any proof. This is when having the conversation with myself turned into how I have to make a list about this. My top 5 obviously things in games people never picked up on. Now if you haven't played these games there is some spoilers here so keep this in mind before you go complaining about spoilers.

5 Vlad Is A Vampire - Magicka

So this one is rather silly and obvious but some people think it is a joke and not actually true. Even after the whole must kill the vampire level. Setting the record straight for everyone Vlad is a Vampire.

4. Drake and Elena are Married - Uncharted Series

So this one is a little less obvious, but the writing is on the walls the entire time. With the "ring" that mattered along with being separated along with the scene I chose for the picture. Everything points to this without it actually being said. Anyone who thinks otherwise honestly makes me facepalm every time.

3.  Assassin's Creed Games Contain Real History

You would be surprise how many people argue against this. There is even some stats on how you can learn more about history from Assassin's Creed then in an actually history course. You know tose little pop ups about the buildings you encounter that crap wasn't made up it was true. Along with the people you encounter. This is why the stories seem to make sense and fit in so well because they were created into real history.

2. Haschel is Dart's Grandfather - Legend of the Dragoon

I have had this argument with people over and over. They always quote Albert saying how common a name of Claire is. They also never talk about the singing or martial arts which disprove the whole naming theory. Haschel even figures it out and when his part of the Divine Tree comes he doesn't want Dart to know jsut yet.

1. Laguna is Squall's Father - Final Fantasy 8

This one is less obvious, but the conversation before "the end" is the final push towards this. It is never explicitly stated but signs point towards it. The whole "sis" thing and squall remembering certain things which no one else tends to remember even though they all have memory issues. The way Edea describes everything to him after she is saved. I am sure a lot of you are now having mindblown moments now, but just let it all sink in.

There you have it this week's list. Do any of you know anything worth mentioning? Think of one I for lack of better words obviously missed? Let me know.

For It Be As It Must

So here we are waiting for Friday to all go see the new Hobbit movie. So in thinking about this with today being Wednesday I thought what better topic could I come up for this week's list then the best Dragons in gaming. Now there are many awesome dragons and this was actually more difficult then I actually thought it would be when I started to list them off to myself and found out my list needed to be trimmed down quite a bit. So with that in mind here are my choices for the best dragons in gaming.

5. The Divine Dragon - Legend of the Dragoon

The was something just simply epic and awe inspiring about the divine dragon. Not to mention the fact that he was a total bitch of a boss when you were just learning and he was even an ass when you knew what you were doing. Then of course when you got to use his powers there was nothing more satisfying then "DIVINE DRAGON CANNON"

4. Spyro - Spyro Series

Spyro might not be scary or evil but is definitely one of the most iconic dragons in all of gaming. Older gamers will recognize him in all of his PS1 glory days while the younger crowd will know him in the handheld glory. Spyro shows you don't have to be a vicious killing machine to be awesome.

3. Bahamut - Final Fantasy Series

A staple in the Final Fantasy series he always makes a grand entrance. There is nothing quite as terrifying as a Megaflare  about to rain down on you or when you are in control nothing more fist pumping. Even non Final Fantasy fans have to agree this guy is worth mentioning.

2. Alduin - Skyrim

Skyrim is full of Epic dragons but when your name is "the world eater" you are just a cut above the rest of them. This dragon has godlike powers and really just wants to detroy the entire world. He is always trash talking you and constantly fighting until you have that final rage inducing showdown.

1. Deathwing - Warcraft Series

There are dragons and then their is Deathwing. He used to be one of the most revered dragons in all of creation but fell into madness caused by the old gods. He is not only a massive being that cause unless destruction but he has the mind to defeat his foes even by outsmarting them to trick them into being involved in his plans. Sure he was eventually taken down but nothing will ever change my mind on his epicness.

There you have it my best dragons. As always agree or disagree let me know.

Well Butter My Biscuit

So have you ever started playing a game thinking it wasn't going to be very good, or at least not as good as everyone was saying? Then after playing it you were surprised at how much you enjoyed it. Well that is what this week's list is going to be all about. Games I only decided to play because I felt it was necessary to play them. I didn't have high expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I ended up liking them. So here they are.

5. Magicka

So I had heard for awhile that this game was actually fun. From all the trailers it looked amusing, but never really decided to actually play it. When I did I not only found the game fun and entertaining but there was some difficulty to it within the single player game. You had to think a midst all the hilarity which gets thrown around.

4. Dark Cloud

So the concept of the gaming sounded interesting. It was an Action Role Playing game and it included some city building as well. It had an interesting concept. The character though looked almost like Link and I started to get scared. I picked it up and was quite impressed how they tied everything together and how I was able to forget how much Toan looked like Link.

3. Legend of the Dragoon

When LoD came out I was a skeptic. The game was being released by Sony and it was getting rave reviews from sources which were linked to Sony. Regardless I picked up the game and everything which was said was true. The game had a story any RPG would love to have along with a combat system in a turn based style which I hope one day will make its way back.

2. Assassin's Creed Brotherhood

The Assassin's Creed games while connected were not true sequels. Sure the current time period was connected to one another but part 2 brought in a new Assassin's known as Ezio one of my favourite gaming characters ever. I was scared when Brotherhood was announced because I didn't want them to ruin the character. Well they didn't ruin him they did the impossible and made him better. Brotherhood was far and away a better game than ACII which was a great game itself.

1. World Of Warcraft

I was a fan of Warcraft since Orcs and Humans and although MMOs were not a new thing they were new. I had played EQ and Final Fantasy XI and I really wasn't a fan. I didn't like the style. I figured I would play WoW and then complained how they ruined one of my favourite gaming series by turning it into and MMO. I ended up playing WoW for 7+ years and from it this blog was even born from my adventures within it. I probably would still be playing if I had the time to commit to play the way I feel it needs to be. World of Warcraft by far was the biggest surprise from any game I ever played.

There you have it this week's list. I know everyone's is different but tell me what you think or your thoughts on your own games which surprised you.

Legend of the Dragoon

So a couple months ago I noticed one of the favourite playstation games was finally on PSN. You see many of you know about the games I enjoy. Hell I talk about them a lot, I quote them. One of my favourite quotes in any video game comes from Legend of the Dragoon.

"Those who flaunt their power disappear when the truly powerful appear."

I love this quote because it doesn't apply only to the game itself as it can apply to anything if it is reworded. Anyways back to the game. You see when I saw this on PSN I had to get it. Sure it is a first generation Playstation game so some of you younger people will find the graphics unplayable. Games are not all about graphics though. Although I believe this is one of the first rpgs to actually have voice acting. This game had a great story and characters which were well developed and had connections. Sure there was some old school RPG cheese in it, but that is to be expect from this era of games. I remember countless hours of play in this game when I was in high school leveling up each characters additions. Also remember this was back when RPGs had a much steeper difficulty curve. Something I have always enjoyed in any game rather than the linear type difficult of modern games.

Also this game had one of the most interesting turn based systems I still have ever encountered. It revolved upon you being able to complete additions, which were really combination moves with your auto attacks. Over time you got better at or you really had no chance of getting anywhere in the game. Word of warning though when playing this game on a PS3 you realize that the modern controllers have much quicker response time then they did take in the PS1 days. So truly it makes completing the attacks harder than it ever was.

Really though what is there not to love about an RPG with dragons, magic, the end of the world all tied into a love story.  If that is not enough to convince  you to spend what I believe was $9.99 the main character Dart looks epic in this picture.

Worth your time you can say thanks to me after you play it.
