Sazh Story

Yesterday we had the first Downloading part to add to the FFXIII-2 story. If you were hoping when you first heard about it that it would add to the main storyline and make a better ending, you will be disappointed. This is a side story, which happens parallel to the Main Storyline. It has to do with what the heck Sazh was doing the whole time.

I won't spoil the story itself, but just tell you what it adds. You get the Card Tables in Serendipity and after you complete the storyline you get Sazh's Monster crystal and obviously if you played FFXIII then you would figure Sazh is a Synergist.

Considering the  Card games themselves one of them being Texas Holdem has a slight bug. When you go ALL IN and you have more chips than your opponent you still are betting all your chips. Something I learned the hard way, when I did it to force my near bust Opponent ALL IN. He ended up winning with his 147 chips and I had a little under 4000. This busted me instantly. So hopefully that gets fixed. The second card game I enjoy a lot more than I thought I would. It requires some interesting strategy and is quite fast paced. So even if I was hoping Triple Triad would make a return I was not disappointed in this interesting clock based game. Here is a screen shot of it here.

Overall the story took me no time at all to get through, but I am a pretty good poker player so that may have had something to do with it. Additionally you can have Sazh in your party and these games forever. I also wish these games were a part of the game when I was going for the fragment for Casino coins won. Doing it with the slots was rather tiresome, so those who haven't gotten it will have a much easier time. So if you are thinking about it I would say it is worth it especially for the monster crystal and the additional story and well you can always play cards when you're bored.

You Fail At Knowing Who Said At If...

Fail Day! Yes it is that time again. Is it weird I get excited writing these posts because I look forward to all the emails I will get about them? All is well. Today though we are going to do this a little different. Many of you have been asking for awhile that I should do another quiz type thing with quotes from people in Warcraft Lore. I thought that was a good idea until I thought I would incorporate it into a Fail Post. So sit back and enjoy the plenty of Fail which will be on the way.

You Fail At Knowing Who Said That If...
  • You are not and never will be prepared when he said "You are not prepared!"
  • You can't place "We have all lost... a great deal in this conflict, but we stand to lose EVERYTHING if we do not stop fighting and work together!" even if you have seen it in a trailers 100s of times
  • Even if he has killed you multitude of times you have no clue he said "It is done! All that which must be given has been given, I now seal the Dragon Soul forever!"
  • You still don't know who said "Your friends will abandon you."even if it has happened to you in game and out.
  • You died to this numerous times, but still unsure who yelled "Note to self: Cannon highly effective against flesh."
  • You some how don't know who said this probably one of the greatest one liners in WoW "Am I a murderer, Krom'gar?"
  • You have not been around Warcraft Lore long enough to know who said these words which forever changed the world "Succeeding you, father..."
  • "Death to the outsiders!" does give you bad memories of endless wipes
  • You never got to experience one of the greatest boss entries when this was said "See your world through my eyes: A universe so vast as to be immeasurable - incomprehensible even to your greatest minds."
  • You have been threatened so much the words "BURN YOU MISERABLE WRETCHES!" don't ring a bell
  • You some how didn't live out the pleasure of "Scurry."
  • You are still somewhat creeped out by these words "Chaos...Madness..It's like a hug for your brain."
  • You don't chuckle every time you see this quote from her "Long ago, I swore to protect this land, Malfurion. I never had the luxury of sleeping through times of great peril."
  • You forgot the inspiration these words brought "Now, you said that your warchief was in trouble – that the Horde needed the tauren once again. Well, Thrall did much for us in his time, and we will not fail him. My warriors will rendezvous with the warchief upon the battlefield, but I will be returning with YOU!"
and finally
  • You must live under a rock because you have no clue who started this saying "Merely a setback"
There you have it this week's edition of Fail. How many did you get? Did you fail miserably? And honestly how many did you google?

I would have it right up there on my list, and I am sure many of you have seen it and if you haven't I know you will enjoy it. So I present you Edge of Remorse

Always will be a masterpiece

Ask Gauss

Here we are once again at the end of the weekend. Time to look back at all the time we wasted because we didn't get done what needed to be done, because we really enjoyed our time sitting back and doing absolutely nothing which was productive. Also since it is Sunday it means it is time for Ask Gauss the post of the week where I answer questions sent to me throughout the week. So why don't we just get right to it.

What do you think of them changing runestones in Diablo III to now being skill runes?

First off for those who don't know. Runestones were supposed to be drops which would augment your skills and make them do a variety of things from causing explosions, to knockbacks, or as simple as doing more damage or healing. These runes had a multitude of levels and you would have to find them throughout your progress in the game or you would have to trade for them in one way or another. Now as you could imagine this could be quite a time sink for those looking to completely customize their hero they way they wanted. This has been changed in the recent beta patch. Instead of having to find all the particular runestones you are now granted the abilities of the runestones as a skill rune as you level up your character. What this means now is all the way to level 60 you will get something for your character and not just a level. This means less time running around trying to grind out the particular stone and means now you can customize your hero the way you want without searching endless and hoping for luck. This now leaves all the grinding and treasure hunting Diablo is all about for just that Loot. So I like it.

Why do people care so much about the Nerfs in WoW?

WoW has become a game based on recognition ever since achievements were implemented. This gives players a way to track their progress and show that they are better than someone else. This is why so many players who play alts wanted account wide achievements so they could show off all they have done even if they toon hop quite often. So when a boss is nerfed and someone else gets that achievement they take it as an insult. They see it as something that they earned and that the other person who may have done it months after them did not deserve it because it was nerfed. You would think the whole one month before them would be good enough for them, but I honestly believe players won't be happy till nothing is nerfed and the game dies because the casual players the ones which contribute to most of the annual subscription money quit or until Blizzard gives them something extra special for killing something pre nerf so they have something else to sit around in the city on.

So I just beat FFXII-2 and I am really clueless.

Welcome to the party.

There you have it questions answered for this week. Hope you all got something out of it. As always keep sending in the questions and if I don't get to them on here it doesn't mean I will not answer them.

Oh How Things Connect

First of all before you read this rather enjoyable Daily Blink, I think it is worth saluting all those who participated in the WoW Iron Man Challenge. If you were unaware this was going it I will give a basic explanation. You had to level a character using no benefits like no guild, groups, RAF, Talents etc. Also you could only use items which were white or grey. Sounds pretty intense right? Well there was also this thing that if you died then you had to start over from the beginning. With all that explained now read this and all of its hilarity.

Oh I know you are laughing, because who doesn't love a Diablo III release joke. Especially when you are asked at least 30 times a day if you have heard anything.

Yak Mount?

So it was recently confirmed by Bashiok that the Yak we saw in the screenshot of Mists of Pandaria will actually be available for a mount. If you haven't seen the screen

This being confirmed is leaving to all sorts of speculation that this will be the Pandren's offical mount. This I really doubt as it just doesn't seem to fit at all. I believe this will be something more like the mammoths were in Northrend. This would also open the doors for them to create a new Travelers mount which has more useful materials. This does lead into, what is the Pandaren mount going to be? There has been talk of a dragon, frog, a rickshaw, and then there is the people who think it could even be a giant red ball. Of all of those I would love to see a dragon type mount. Obviously it cannot be a dragon as we currently know it in WoW, because that wouldn't make too much sense. It can be something which is a dragon like serpent, which in my opinion would be nothing sort of epic.

You Fail At Diablo If...

Happy Fail Day everyone! The day where it is time to feel better about yourself because of others misfortune. Oh what a wonderful life we live isn't it. Today we are going to venture into the world of Diablo which some of you may or not be familiar with, and if you aren't then isn't Fail Day the perfect way to learn about it? So let's get right to it.

You Fail At Diablo If...
  • You don't know who Dekard Cain is
  • You are unfamiliar with the world of Sanctuary
  • You believe Heaven is good and Hell is bad
  • You are in doubt what the spawn of an Angel and a Demon would be
  • You don't believe it is possible for random demons to spawn out of mid air
  • You think the laws of physics apply to this world
  • You cannot believe religion can be dark
  • You do not know who the primal evils are
  • You don't think Tyrael is one of the coolest looking gaming characters
  • You think it is not all about the loot
  • You cannot spam click
  • You think Leah is really Dekard's Uncle
and finally
  • You don't check for a release of the release date on a daily basis
And there you have it. This week's edition of fail. Hope you all enjoyed it. And who knows maybe this will be the week of a release date announcement. Probably not, but we can all hope can we not.

Home, Sweet Andorhal

Happy Monday morning. Today is a happy Monday for me because well here it is a holiday. Anytime you get a day off is a great day. Even so today is Monday so it still is Machinima Monday regardless and we will be showcasing one today. I decided to go with one I believe I have showcased before and if not I know you are all familar with how much I enjoy Melvenor's lore shorts. I will go far as to say his are the best Lore Machinima for Warcraft there are. The name of the Machinima I will be showing today is called Home, Sweet Andorhal. It is part of his Faces of Cataclysm series and in my opinion is one of the best Machinima's I have ever seen. I am actually still upset that Blizzard didn't even consider it for Blizzcon 2010, but that is long past. So sit back and enjoy this mastery of work.

See told you it was epic!

Ask Gauss

I swear every time it is Sunday and I sit here in front of my screen I wonder where the hell the weekend went to. You would think after thinking about the same thing every week I would have an answer by now, but sadly no. Isn't that the definition of insanity? Anyways, enough of that. With today being Sunday you should know unless you are new here that it is time for Ask Gauss. The post of the week where I answer questions sent to me throughout the week for all of you to see. So without babbling anymore let's get this started.

With all the talk that has been going on in the forums of PvE dying in WoW, do you have an opinion on the matter?

I don't believe this is actually true, but could be heading there. The PvE aspect of the game isn't going away. What I do think is interesting is in MoP you can do LFR and practically be afk and kill the required bosses in the game, and get tier level loot regardless of it not being the best of the best. Then you can do the challenge mode instances, which basically nerf you and cause you to compete to be the best and you only get cosmetic awards. So you do something much more difficult and you don't even get something on par with the other. Yes heroic level gear will always be the best PvE gear and LFR isn't supposed to be hard. I completely understand this. All I am saying is Blizzard has to be careful with the line that they are walking.

Did you finish FFXIII-2? If so what was with the ending?

Well I am not going to speak directly to the ending, because I don't want to play spoiler. I will say though I was surprised as hell and it is unfinished, although "to be continued" really does point to it not being finished. One thing I will point out though, games have expansions all the time and with side stories going to be Downloadable I wouldn't doubt that down the road there will be an addition to the story so that we are not left with what we have been. Overall I think the story in FFXIII and part 2 inparticular has been one of the best in the series, and I know they won't leave us with that for long.

When will Diablo III be released?

Hopefully before the world ends

And that is it, questions answered for the week. Enjoy what is left of your weekend and if you are like me enjoy your day off tomorrow for the long weekend!

Duos To Remember

I was catching up on some Know Your Lore over at WoW Insider. The post was dealing with the writers opinion of the greatest duos there are. Now I had to agree with him and his view of Cairne and Baine as one of the best if not the best. Why? Well I am Tauren favoured, but also how their relationship seems to be the entire sought after Father Son relationship. I think The Shattering made everyone even non horde players think of Cairne in a different light, and I think that had a lot to do with Baine.

Now there were others that were listed in the article, but I immediately tried to think of those who were not mentioned. So here goes my attempt at some.

Koltira and Thassarian

I found their friendship one of the most powerful relationship in the game. Despite the different factions that they represent, and being at opposite ends of a conflict in which the goal is to destroy the other. They find a way. In the Plaguelands, sure, they're going on about fighting each other but you can tell there's no enmity or hatred, that it's just friendly banter, no matter how serious they are. I have not played the Alliance side of that questline, so may be wrong, but when Koltira gets captured, Thassarian does decide to go save his ass.

Tyrande and Malfurion

This to me is an interesting one. Why? Because it has always seemed that Malfurion has always cared for Azeroth more than he cares for Tyrande. This was one of the reasons I always found myself siding with Illidan. These two are supposed to be the greatest love story in lore. I don't see it. In fact I always thought that Arthas and Jaina were much more than them, not to mention Turalyon and Alleria. In Warcraft III you saw this relationship for what it was supposed to be. Mates that would do anything for their world so they could live in it with each other. It has changed since then where it doesn't seem to matter that they are together anymore, it just matters that the world is saved, which seems weird because they finally got married.

Alextrasza and Korialstrasz

It baffles my mind how this relationship was never mentioned in the article. This to me surpasses everything. This is truly a relationship where one would do anything to protect the other, show love, or serve. Even if it were to mean death, and in the end it did. Korialstrasz did sacrifice himself in service of his queen, even if he loved her so to preserve her role in the world as the Life-Binder. For all those that complain how Knaak writes his characters he wrote the story between the two of them beautifully.

There you have it. Three I thought were missing from the list. Now there are more, but I think these are ones that should have been mentioned.

Printing Money??

So yesterday the "Heart of The Aspects" mount became available. This to me is obviously the best looking mount they have ever made to be purchased in the Blizzard Store. If you haven't seen the mount here is what it looks like.

Now being an MMO it seems a little weird to buy a mount for the purpose of advancing your character. I know it doesn't give an unfair advantage so it doesn't really apply, but still. The only exception to me would be if the money itself goes to charity, which is why I have bought a few of the pets. Regardless of that many people like to purchase these mounts.2 As you probably know they cost $25 a piece. With that in mind you may wonder how much money Blizzard makes off of these mounts. Well here is a little idea. Within 5 minutes on the North American store it looked like this

That is 40226 x $25 = $1,005,650. That is right over a million dollars. So it is safe to say that making a mount like this is a license to print money

You Fail At Valentine's Day If...

Today is Fail Day, but since it is Valentine's Day we are going to do this a little differently. How you say? Well we are going to do it about Valentine's Day. So sit back and enjoy.

You Fail At Valentine's Day If...
  • You think it is not a commercial holiday
  • You believe your wife/girlfriend won't care if you don't recognize the day
  • When you get a bottle of perfume or cologne you spastically spray it at everyone who comes close to you
  • You don't understand why this day is called "GFS Day" by many married people
  • You are still questioning why you paid $50 for that dozen roses
  • You sit beside a picnic basket in the middle of a park with a sign saying "looking for love"
  • You dress up like Cupid and shoot people with arrows in an effort to find someone
  • You decide the need for a reservation is useless
  • When you open a box of chocolates you wonder why there was no gold inside
  • You don't like cinnamon heats
  • You tried to pickup a card this morning because you forgot what today was
and finally
  • You believed them when they said "all they really want for Valentine's Day was you"
Happy Valentine's Day!!! Hopefully you don't fail this bad today!

The Hills have Eggs

Monday, yes I know I signed when I typed that just like you did when you read it. This week though I decided to not go on and on about how everyone hates Monday's and how they are depressing and that this post idea was created to get out of that funk. Nope I am not going to do it. Instead I am just going to lead into the Machinima. That's right today is Machinima Monday and this week I have quite the Machinima for you courtesy of Olibith. It is called "The Hills have Eggs" you may have seen it because it has been out for some time, but if you haven't and have about 15 minutes to kill you won't be disappointed. I will leave it at that because you are bound to be impressed.

See I knew you would like it!

Ask Gauss

Sunday really that is what day it is. Trust me when I woke up this morning I was questioning myself to if I was seeing things or not. It is the truth though and instead of wondering where in the hell my weekend went I am up and ready to right today's Ask Gauss post. Oh yes the post of the week where I sit back and answer some of the questions sent to me throughout the week.

What are your thoughts on Valve trying to Trademark DotA?

For those who don't know DotA 2 is a game which is coming out created by the Valve cooperation. It will be in the spirit of the popular mod of the Warcraft III. Now obviously Blizzard is up and arms over this and here is there statement on it.

"It just seems a really strange move to us that Valve would go off and try to exclusively trademark the term considering it's something that's been freely available to us and everyone in the Warcraft III community up to this point...To us, that means that you're really taking it away from the Blizzard and Warcraft III community and that just doesn't seem the right thing to do".

Valve then came back with this statement

"The issue with that was, when we were talking with IceFrog originally, he wanted to build the sequel to DOTA. So the reason to call it Dota 2 is it actually does a pretty good job of communicating to gamers what it is the game is going to be. If a gamer looks at this game and you ask them, is that Dota 2? They're going to say yeah, that makes sense. That's a good name for it. That's really what's driving that. I haven't had any customers or gamers react negatively to it. They seem to be pretty comfortable with it."

This then came back again to Blizzard who responded with this

"DOTA, that for more than seven years has been used exclusively by Blizzard and its fan community, under license from Blizzard. By virtue of that use, the DOTA mark has become firmly associated in the mind of consumers with Blizzard, including to signify a highly popular scenario or variant of one of Blizzard's best-selling computer games, Warcraft III...

In contrast to Blizzard, Applicant Valve Corporation ("Valve") has never used the mark DOTA in connection with any product or service that currently is available to the public. By attempting to register the mark DOTA, Valve seeks to appropriate the more than seven years of goodwill that Blizzard has developed in the mark DOTA and in its Warcraft III computer game and take for itself a name that has come to signify the product of years of time and energy expended by Blizzard and by fans of Warcraft III. "

Now what is my whole opinion on this? Well Blizzard never trademarked it because they never felt the need to do so because it was a community development. They never expected another company would go behind their back and do something like this. So Blizzard is in the right for being upset although I think from now on they might change the way they go about things.

So only 100k subs lost, is this a good thing?

I think this means WoW is stabilizing around the 10M subscriber number. This to me makes sense. Month to month people are going to be playing other games and doing the "new thing", but those who enjoy playing will be playing. Yes the numbers will be inflated when expansions come out, but that is expected. I expect Blizzard to stay around this mark for awhile and maybe even slightly higher when MoP comes out.

Are you pissed that you signed up for the annual pass and Diablo III is still not out?

Why would I be pissed? f you signed up for the Annual Pass because you think that would get you D3 quicker then you are by far an idiot, and most likely play a Ret Pally.

There you have it, questions answered for the week. Hope you all got something out of it. Enjoy what is left of your weekend!

Really Turtles?

For all of you that didn't know WoW Insider does a piece each day call Around Azeroth. Where they take screenshots and show off the locals, which exist in and around Azeroth. I always find it interesting to see what others have scene and found throughout the world. Today though this was their screenshot

Now this isn't the turtle mount, but it still bugs me. I just find it amusing that I now have a hatred for turtles because of something I haven't been able to get in WoW. Is this weird? Even if it is it won't change anything. I will just have to make it a point to not enter a pet store and declare war on the little bastards.

Super Bowl BG Style

I was reading the Daily Blink today and couldn't stop laughing. Why you ask? Well I always have enjoyed reading the chat in Battlgrounds to know how overboard some people go. Especially in Random BGs they freakout and it becomes what I like to call a "Call of Duty Fest" on both sides of the BG. So whichever of the writers decided to come up with this beauty my hat is off to you.

Yes I know it is simply epic

You Fail At Love Is In The Air If...

Fail Day! Oh it is that time again, and that is probably why you are here. I always find it entertaining that Fail Day is the most popular post of the week and its sole purpose is to poke fun at others. Sure sometimes I am poking fun at things I do, but really it is a day to sit back and realize all the dumb things you or others may do. This week I realized that I have never actually done a Fail Day about Love is in the Air so today I decided to fix this. So here goes.

You Fail At Love Is In The Air If...
  • You are not a Love Fool
  • You forget to have your Lovely Charm Collectors Kit on you
  • You don't remember the pain and suffering of the heart candies when they were first introduced
  • You have trouble spraying random people with cologne
  • The concept of pink good green bad or green good and pink bad is extremely difficult for you
  • You still have no idea where SFK is
  • You don't display your Peddlefeet during holiday
  • You think the love fool has unlimited uses
  • You think wearing the Vile Fumigator's Mask will help you get a date
  • You carry around "the Heartbreaker" to use as proof you don't live in your mother's basement
  • You think carefully who you give your chocolate to everyday, be cause some of them may suffer from diabetes
  • You actually think it is likely you will get a Big Love Rocket
  • The new Love Bird will be your best looking mount
and finally
  • When you put down your picnic basket people make it a point to walk away
There you have it this week's edition of Fail. Hope you all enjoyed it!

IRL - In Real Life

Monday! Yes that is today. You can stop being depressed now because you should have realized by now that Monday means it is time for Machinima Monday. The day of the week where I showcase a Machinima for all of you to see. These week I decided to go with a little different type of video. There has been many videos about WoW addiction and what it can do to someone and what it can do to their life. Many times those videos make it seem like WoW is evil and shouldn't be touched. This to me is completely false. Anything in moderation is fine, it is when people go overboard that it becomes bad. There is that tip that pops up every once in awhile when you log on "Bring your friends to Azeroth, but don't forget to go outside Azeroth with them as well.". For those who want to joke this doesn't mean Outland. Anyways with that in mine here is IRL - In Real Life

Hope you enjoyed it!

Ask Gauss

Here we are at the tail end of the weekend, which means it is Sunday and, of course, it is time for Ask Gauss. The post of the week where I answer the questions put forth to me throughout the week. With that in mind if you are unsure about how to send in questions it is pretty simple. There is a link on the top right of the page or you can send an email directly to gaussafication@gmail.com. Yes I know it is pretty simple, so no excuses to screw it up. So with all that out of the way let's get to the questions.

I heard there was a new Love Is In The Air Mount this year,  did they just redesign the Love Rocket?

You heard correct, but it is not a redone love rocket. The impossible to actually get Love Rocket is still in the game as it always has been. I am not sure if they finally decided to actually increase the drop rate so it is actually feasible without an amazing amount of luck. The new mount though is call The Swift Love Bird and is able to be purchased for 270 love tokens from the standard holiday vendor. With this mount actually being able to be purchased makes me think they will leave the Love Rocket at the same drop rate. Oh and in case you were curious the bird looks as such.

I saw you did a couple posts about Final Fantasy, I have never played one and always heard the games themselves were difficult and frustrating. Is this true?

As a player who has Final Fantasy ever since day 1 I can tell you that the games themselves are more difficult then the average game. The base story to them in the modern era of the games isn't extremely difficult but I would say above average. The side quests and all the extra challenges even in the newer games are going to be some of the toughest things you will come across in the RPG genre. My thoughts have always been if a games is beaten on your first try you aren't going to think you accomplished anything when you complete it. Final Fantasy at least gives you that satisfaction.

Why do you always rag on Pallys even when they get an exploit?

Why not? That would be like telling me not to breathe.

That is it for this week. Hope you all at least got something out of it. Good luck on getting the Love Rocket!

Retribution Pally Issues

So if you some reason decided to play a paladin, and then also decided to spec ret. You may be in for a little surprise. This surprise being that you can actually do some dps. Now I am here to inform you that this is a bug and you will be returned to your lowly status of DPS joke after a bug fix goes out. At least you could enjoy your time of being able to do this

Oh wait you cannot really enjoy your OPness because a blue poster has said

We're aware of this issue and looking into it right now. It's likely we won't have further updates for you until we're back in the office in the morning PST.

Just as a reminder from the Terms of Use:
C. Rules Related to Game Play.
(i) Using or exploiting errors in design, features which have not been documented, and/or "program bugs" to gain access that is otherwise not available, or to obtain a competitive advantage over other players.

So basically if you are a Ret Pally(I really have a hard time typing that without breaking out into laughing fits) you cannot do anything of consequence until this is fixed because the bug will allow you to basically 3 man heroic content. That is you could do something and just get banned and have it taken away.

Final Fantasy Is Not Linear?

So yesterday if you didn't know Final Fantasy XIII-2 came out, and if you didn't know I am a big fan of the series. Over the years playing you come to expect a story, which is extremely well written, but for the most part is a very linear progression of a game. Sure there are always moments where you can somewhat venture off, but the result is you always go back to where you should have been to progress through the main story's path. I have never had a problem with this style, but I know over the years people have seen non-linearity in other games and questioned why this sort of style was not at least somewhat implemented. Well those people got their wish and for me a die hard fan I don't mind it.

The game offers the opportunity to jump through time after you open gates to these periods. Sure there is one main story arc, but you don't have to take that path if you don't wish. The fact of the matter is you actually don't know which path is the true path so you find yourself almost searching for what is the true result. This to me is the perfectly example of time travel. You go changing the past going to the future and you actually don't know how the results of your travel will effect the world itself. Brilliantly done, and I think this installment of the game was the perfect choice to choose such a style.

Now besides the that the game has everything a Final Fantasy game has. Graphics, which are some of the best around, soundtrack development that is top notch, and an epic story. The battle and leveling system have returned from part one, which makes sense, but if you were expecting something different you won't be getting it. There are some additions and improvements to either system, but for the most part they are the same. Meaning if you played part one you won't have to learn something completely new, you just have to learn the new parts of either system.

So if you are already playing it you know exactly what I mean, and if you were thinking about purchasing it or not, hope this helps sway your decision.
